It’s primary care for active individuals from age 5-105. It isn’t just for elite level athletes trying to stay competitive or recover from injury either. It’s also for anyone from the daily dog walker to manual laborers and everything in between. Whether it’s for performance or for an acute or a chronic condition, our services can keep you active or help you return to activity as soon as possible after injury.

Our History

Post-training, Drs. Carpio and Gutierrez continued to notice alarmingly disproportionate gaps in care and access in many of the communities they engaged with daily. Nationally, there is a certain caliber of injury prevention and treatment that is afforded to professional and other high-level athletes.

Colleges, communities and youth sports often struggle to find care and maneuver the confusing landscape that is healthcare in the United States. Despite these noticeable inequities, there are few active efforts being made to remedy them. As a result, they felt an obligation to effect change and leave their communities and profession in better condition than they were found. That is when Pride Sports Medicine came to fruition

Gabriel Carpio

Bracho, MD CAQSM

As a child, Dr. Carpio-Bracho immigrated with his family to the United States from Venezuela. The task of adapting to a new culture and language can feel daunting but the communities they found welcomed them and served to empower and guide them through the challenges of assimilation. Both of his parents are physicians and avid community advocates, exposing him to a myriad of ways to get involved and continue to work with communities to achieve common goals. By watching them and participating in many of the programs they created, he developed a passion for community work and preventive care. In his youth, he came to realize that for him, sports created that sense of community and became a tool that he was able to leverage to create friendships, grow confidence, and build overall skills that crossed over into many facets of life.

Once on his journey to become a doctor, Family Medicine was the logical specialty choice as it  would allow him to continue to build deep relationships within the communities he served. While in residency he realized that he could also combine his love of sports, so he chose to pursue a fellowship in Sports Medicine as well.

During his Fellowship, Dr. Carpio functioned as team doctor for a local high school and division 2 college. After training, he continued to invest his time in the local communities and over the course of 4 years he was directly involved in growing sports medicine for both clinical and community-based programs. He served as team doctor at 5 different high schools, providing sideline coverage and creating on campus training rooms to coordinate care for athletes on site, including medical care and sports physicals. He served as team doctor for an NAIA university and collaborated with local sports clubs to to coordinate care of all athletes out of his clinic. Additionally, he functioned as the Independent Neurological Consultant for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dr. Carpio-Bracho is fluent in Spanish. When he is not at the office, he enjoys playing rugby, cheering on his beloved Detroit Lions, and spending time with family and friends.

Mario Gutiérrez

MD CAQSM

Dr Gutierrez is a native of Dos Palos, a small farming town nestled along the westside of California’s Central Valley. He is a son of Mexican parents who immigrated to the United States in hopes of affording their children a better life. Growing up in an underserved community he quickly learned of the healthcare disparities affecting both his family and community. Seeing and experiencing the lack of resources motivated Dr. Gutierrez to pursue a profession that would allow him to give back to communities like the one in which he grew up. While in grade school he developed a passion for sports, a passion that he carries with him to this day. As a practicing physician he was able to couple his love for sports and his desire to provide access to healthcare in the areas that need it the most.

While completing his sports medicine fellowship training in El Paso, Dr. Gutierrez provided medical care to student athletes at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Some of his duties included sideline/courtside coverage for all their Division I collegiate sports teams and assisting in their training room during the week. After fellowship, Dr Gutierrez spent some time in Bakersfield, CA where he was part of a primary care sports medicine practice. In Bakersfield, he volunteered his time with California State University Bakersfield Athletics where he worked closely with their athletic trainers to facilitate access to medical care and sports physicals.

Dr. Mario Gutiérrez is fluent in Spanish. During his free time Dr. Gutierrez enjoys spending time with his loved ones, working out, playing basketball and as a self-proclaimed foodie he loves cooking and eating delicious foods from different cultures.
