Pain or injury can have a number of culprits. Common causes of injury include sports or those sustained at work. At Pride Sports Medicine, we’ll work with you to discover the cause of injury and help diagnose what’s causing pain. We offer a wide range of services to pinpoint exactly what’s wrong so that we can develop an effective treatment plan.

Guidance With Performance

When performing a movement repeatedly, there is a chance of injury. This is why many of our patients are athletes or work a physical job. Our team will work with you to prevent further injury by offering guidance on certain movements and exercises to strengthen or relieve stress from the area.

Injury Care and Prevention

Like people, no two injuries are alike. Our dedicated staff will ensure that you receive individual care and attention. To ensure further damage does not occur, we will provide education and guidance on caring for your injury. Our medical professionals will be there for you throughout the entire healing process and will answer any questions you may have.

Ultrasound-Guided Injections

We are excited to offer ultrasound-guided injections as an option for patients. This service's main benefit is a real-time visualization of exactly where the needle enters the body. Without imaging, injections cannot have guaranteed accuracy. This allows the physician to be as accurate as possible when treating your ailment.

Management of Arthritis

If you live with arthritis, know that physical therapy can offer some relief. Our treatment will consist of a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs. We may suggest exercises to build up strength and counseling on how to minimize further joint damage.

In-House Diagnostic Imaging

Performing diagnostic imaging in-house means that your physician can quickly and accurately determine your condition. There is no need to schedule a separate appointment in another location and patiently wait for the results to get back to your doctor and then finally to you.

Fracture Care

After sustaining an injury such as a fracture, physical therapy is often prescribed. If you require splinting or casting, that can also be done in house with regular check-ins to ensure appropriate healing. Strengthening the muscles and ligaments around the fractured bone boosts the healing process and allows you to gain full use of the affected area sooner.

Concussion Management

Concussions can happen in any sport and even outside sports, and the results can last for days, weeks, or even longer. We perform neurological exams to determine the extent of your concussion and can help you manage your symptoms while you heal. Our experts will help you better understand what to expect as you recover and what return looks like. We will also guide you back to your activities either directly or in collaboration with other members of your treatment team.

Sports Physicals

A sports physical can help ensure that you’re safe to play your chosen sport or participate in physical activities. We check your vitals, perform a general physical exam, and check other areas related to your sport. In fact, many community sports programs, including high school, require one be done yearly. We will also review your and your family’s medical history to determine if there are areas of concern.

pride sports medicine doctor Mario Gutierrez Bio

Mario Gutiérrez

MD CAQSM

Dr Gutierrez is a native of Dos Palos, a small farming town nestled along the westside of California’s Central Valley. He is a son of Mexican parents who immigrated to the United States in hopes of affording their children a better life. Growing up in an underserved community he quickly learned of the healthcare disparities affecting both his family and community. Seeing and experiencing the lack of resources motivated Dr. Gutierrez to pursue a profession that would allow him to give back to communities like the one in which he grew up. While in grade school he developed a passion for sports, a passion that he carries with him to this day. As a practicing physician he was able to couple his love for sports and his desire to provide access to healthcare in the areas that need it the most.

While completing his sports medicine fellowship training in El Paso, Dr. Gutierrez provided medical care to student athletes at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Some of his duties included sideline/courtside coverage for all their Division I collegiate sports teams and assisting in their training room during the week. After fellowship, Dr Gutierrez spent some time in Bakersfield, CA where he was part of a primary care sports medicine practice. In Bakersfield, he volunteered his time with California State University Bakersfield Athletics where he worked closely with their athletic trainers to facilitate access to medical care and sports physicals.

Dr. Mario Gutiérrez is fluent in Spanish. During his free time Dr. Gutierrez enjoys spending time with his loved ones, working out, playing basketball and as a self-proclaimed foodie he loves cooking and eating delicious foods from different cultures.

pride sports medicine doctor Gabriel Carpio-Bracho Bio

Gabriel Carpio

Bracho, MD CAQSM

As a child, Dr. Carpio-Bracho immigrated with his family to the United States from Venezuela. The task of adapting to a new culture and language can feel daunting but the communities they found welcomed them and served to empower and guide them through the challenges of assimilation. Both of his parents are physicians and avid community advocates, exposing him to a myriad of ways to get involved and continue to work with communities to achieve common goals. By watching them and participating in many of the programs they created, he developed a passion for community work and preventive care. In his youth, he came to realize that for him, sports created that sense of community and became a tool that he was able to leverage to create friendships, grow confidence, and build overall skills that crossed over into many facets of life.

Once on his journey to become a doctor, Family Medicine was the logical specialty choice as it  would allow him to continue to build deep relationships within the communities he served. While in residency he realized that he could also combine his love of sports, so he chose to pursue a fellowship in Sports Medicine as well.

During his Fellowship, Dr. Carpio functioned as team doctor for a local high school and division 2 college. After training, he continued to invest his time in the local communities and over the course of 4 years he was directly involved in growing sports medicine for both clinical and community-based programs. He served as team doctor at 5 different high schools, providing sideline coverage and creating on campus training rooms to coordinate care for athletes on site, including medical care and sports physicals. He served as team doctor for an NAIA university and collaborated with local sports clubs to to coordinate care of all athletes out of his clinic. Additionally, he functioned as the Independent Neurological Consultant for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dr. Carpio-Bracho is fluent in Spanish. When he is not at the office, he enjoys playing rugby, cheering on his beloved Detroit Lions, and spending time with family and friends.
